Summer at the Carnegie Museum II

Six more people finished the summer program! The last part of the program is to write what you liked or didn't like about the program. So far there have not been any dislikes.



Here are some of the children's answers:

Noah wrote, "It was fun and it was educational and I will do it again (next year)."

Angel liked the Sugar Creek Exhibit "best of all."

Amelia wrote, "I think the Carnegie is the best museum ever! You guys put on awesome exhibits like the Prom and Peanuts. I love the Sugar Creek Exhibit. I think you take awesome topics and put together your thoughts and boom! it's done."

Steve liked the Snoopy Exhibit best but also liked learning about new things.

And 12-year-old Thomas learned "some random facts about words, Peanuts, C-ville and all kinds of history stuff that was really weird."

With praise like this you will not want to miss out!
There is still time to join in the fun but Snoopy leaves us the end of July and Summer at the Carnegie Museum ends Aug 6th.

Summer at the (Carnegie) Museum II

So far we have 85 children (ages 3-15) signed up for Summer at the Museum II!
They visit the museum on their own schedule, complete the activities (independently or with an adult) and earn prizes.

Activities include an alphabet hunt through out the museum, a crossword puzzle, playing games, quick drawings, and graphing prom dress colors. All answers can be found in the museum and we (the staff) are available to give hints and/or explanations.

Amelia has been at the museum nearly everyday since the June 1st start date and has finished Summer at the Museum II!

There are extra activities for those children, like Amelia, who finish the program and want more museum related challenges (and prizes).

The program runs through August 6th and children can sign up any time CMMC is open.

Inside Peanuts: The Life and Art of Charles M. Schulz

Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the whole gang's here! They have traveled from the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, CA to share their story with Montgomery County residents.

This traveling exhibit will be here at the CMMC only until July 31st

Why an exhibit on Charles Schulz and the Peanuts here at a museum dedicated to Montgomery County? No, Charles Schulz was not from Montgomery County but
1. He and his characters touched the lives of generations of people here in Montgomery County (and millions of others around the world).
2. His Peanuts characters are timeless and remain relevant and popular today
3. Charles Schulz painted Snoopy on Joe Allen's helmet,
4. We have our very own nationally syndicated cartoonist from Montgomery County.

Don't know Joe Allen or why he had a helmet, don't know our cartoonist? On the way up to see the Peanuts exhibit visit CMMC's WOW gallery to become acquainted with their stories.

Second Annual Pi Day at the Carnegie Museum!

Today is Pi day!

In honor of Pi Day Wabash College Physics and Math Guys will be on hand to entertain and amaze! There will be five tables of demonstrations, hair-raising fun, lasers and much more. You will look at Pi in a whole new way! Bring the family and visit the Carnegie Museum of Montgomery County.

Invention Convention Winners!

Congratulations to Hannah Keedy and Brian Smith for winning the Carnegie Museum's Invention Convention. Both presented compelling inventions that solve the ever growing energy problem in unique ways. Hannah presented an invention that had to do with hydroelectricity, and Brian presented an invention that focused on man-powered energy. Once again our congratulations go out to these two aspiring inventors. If you would like to see their inventions just stop by the museum when we re-open March 2, 2010. Here are just a few images of the wonderful day.

Exhibit Features powerful reminders

Edith Dallinger, long-time member of Montgomery County's League of Women Voters, dresses up as Carrie Chapman Catt, a leader in the woman suffrage movement that culminated in the adoption of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote.
